A simple yet engaging train route building game (2-5 players, 45 minutes). Players compete for overlapping routes. Tradeoffs: blocking opponents vs. completing routes, low-scoring low-risk routes vs. high-scoring risky routes.

Ticket to Ride is a simple yet engaging train route building game. Players collect train carriage cards, then spend them to place routes on the shared map. Longer routes earn more points, and destination tickets provide additional bonus points for connecting more distant cities. Players must weigh up collecting additional cards and tickets against the possibility of losing routes to their competitors if they hold off for too long. Ticket to Ride won the 2004 Spiel des Jahres prize.

The original game is set in North America. Several alternatives with different maps and some extra rules also exist:

Ticket to Ride also has several expansions available.

I've played fewer than a dozen games but have noticed that I can now guess with about 75% accuracy whether I'll win or not just based on my initial 3 tickets drawn. If I have a long transcontinental route and a shorter one which partially overlaps…

In Ticket to Ride USA, does obtaining longest continuous path of routes highly correlate with winning?

It has in the first 15 (mostly 2-3 player) games I've played so far but I'm wondering if this is true in general. Are we missing strategies? Is this less true in 4-5 player games? Another way of asking the question is whether certain game winning…

How does one evaluate a "locomotive" (rainbow card) in "Ticket to Ride?"

A locomotive or "rainbow" card can be a train of any color you want. That's good, and that's the reason why you can draw only one rainbow card from the board, in lieu of two regular cards from the board, or from the deck. (You're allowed to draw two…
