Game based on the traditional Middle-Eastern game of Okey. You try to get rid of all your tiles by forming numbers into runs of 3 or more, or groups of 3-4 of a kind. Played tiles become communal and can be rearranged and added to by any player. (2-4 players, 30 minutes)

A game based on the traditional middle-eastern game of Okey. First created in the 1930's and sold in hand produced versions until the late 1970's. Rummikub won the 1980 Spiel des Jahres prize.

Similar to the Rummy that you play with cards - you try to get rid of all your tiles by forming numbers into runs of 3 tiles or more, or 3 to 4 of a kind, with colors corresponding to suits. However, all played tiles become communal and can be rearranged and added to by any player. The game may start rather uneventfully, but as more and more tiles enter play, the options for upcoming turns become complex, challenging, and exciting. (2-4 players, 30 minutes)

Can a joker be played on its own?

I was down to a single tile, a joker, and I wanted to place it next to any set already on the table. However, my opponent said a wild tile must always be played with two other tiles from your hand. Could I have played the joker in this case?
