Disk Management is the Windows disk partitioning and management utility, implemented as an MMC snap-in. Disk Management can be used to:

  • create, delete, format, and resize partitions (volumes)
  • assign drive letters to volumes
  • manipulate dynamic volumes, which can span multiple physical disks (in select editions of Windows only)
  • manage mounted VHD and VHDX disk images (since Windows 8)
