transmitter and receiver units which enable off-camera flash

wireless triggers use infrared or radio frequencies to communicate between a camera body and an off-camera flash without the need for a (wired) sync cord. Infrared systems, such as Nikon's CLS, require line-of-sight to fire consistently, while radio units have greater range and do not require the flash to be in plain view of the camera.
