Superresolution is a class of computational-photography techniques that enhance the resolution of an imaging system.
Superresolution (SR, but not to be confused with "Shake Reduction", a term for image-stabilization) is a class of techniques that enhance the resolution of an imaging system. Common to superresolution algorithms is that they work by combining/stacking several pictures (of the same object) into a final picture.
In some SR techniques — termed optical SR — the diffraction limit of systems is transcended, while in others — geometrical SR — the resolution of digital imaging sensors is enhanced. (from Wikipedia, edited)
