Spots are small roughly round shaped artifacts on photos we wouldn't see when looking at the scene.
There are three main causes for these artifacts:
- Dust or other small particles on optical path at some point, usually on or near the sensor.
- Flare — unwanted light reflecting inside the lens or camera, sometimes made worse by a low-cost screw-on filter
- Hot pixels due to failed photosites on the sensor.
For "spots" as scenic places, use locations instead.
