Image quality describes how well a photograph matches a perceived technical ideal.

While the "quality" of an image overall can be highly subjective, there are several ways in which image quality can be assessed in a technical sense. Factors which contribute to (or degrade) image quality include sharpness, lens artifacts, digital compression artifacts, noise, dynamic range, color accuracy, and more.

The Wikipedia article on Image Quality provides a good overview of many such technical factors.
