Questions tagged [cats]

Small, furry (usually), domesticated members of the feline family.

The domestic feline, or cat, has been a human companion for nearly 10,000 years. Cats have been valued by humans for their ability to help control vermin as well as for general companionship.

Depending on the association, there are over 80 breeds of domesticated cats worldwide with a diverse range of size, shape, fur, and temperaments. Some common cat breeds include American Shorthair, Persian, and Siamese. Domestic Shorthair and Domestic Longhair are not specific breeds; they are "catch all" terms for cats which have no specific breed.

Is there anything that suggests that the concept of a "summer cat" is or has ever actually been a thing in Sweden or anywhere else?

There is this vile, alleged concept called a "summer cat" ("sommarkatt" in Swedish). If true, it means that a family with kids buy/get a cat, bring it to the summer cabin, spend the summer with the cat and treat it well, but then they return home…
