Spinal Tap are a fictional band comprised of the comedy troupe of Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer. The band was created for a "Mockumentary" of a British Heavy Metal band who were making a comeback. They have gone on to release three albums followed by tours.
McKean, Guest and Shearer have gone on to create several other "Mockumentaries" including one about a folk band (The Mighty Wind) and one centering on a dog competition (Best In Show). In their early days, they were known as The Credibility Gap and performed a version of "Who's On First?" as concert promoters (the bands performing were The Who, The Guess Who, and Yes).
