Are X-Men called so because Professor Xavier's name?

I have always wondered how the X-Men got their name. Is it because of Prof. Xaviers' starting letter? or maybe because they are xtremely cool ;) Any thoughts and/or proofs?

If Wolverine has healing ability, why do his memories not heal?

In the original X-Men movies, Wolverine is on a quest to find out who he is and what happened to him after Stryker removed his memory. How is it possible that his physical body can heal instantaneously and his memories can't?
