The use of malt extract in homebrewing.

'Extract' is usually used as an abbreviation for 'malt extract' in homebrewing. Many brewers (especially those starting out) use malt extract instead of mashing malted barley (as in all-grain brewing). The malt extract is usually supplied in liquid or dry form and contains the sugars and other compounds extracted from the grains during mashing.
