ArcView 3.x was a Desktop GIS product that preceded ArcGIS Desktop and should not be confused with the ArcView license level of the latter

The ArcView GIS product from ESRI (now called Esri) was a predecessor to ArcGIS Desktop (now called ArcGIS for Desktop).

ArcView had three major versions (1.0, 2.x and 3.x) and achieved a branding that was then applied to its successor product ArcGIS Desktop as its ArcView license level.
