Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast.

Path of Exile is a free to play online multiplayer action RPG (ARPG) created by Grinding Gear Games. The game takes place in a fantasy world named Wraeclast, an island prison for exiles.

In Path of Exile, there is no gold among the exiles. Instead, crafting items used to modify gear are used as currency. The economy is largely barter-based and focuses on these crafting items.

Players are able to choose between multiple classes that focus around the three main attributes: Intelligence, Strength and Dexterity. The chosen class determines where you start on the passive skill tree, which is similar to Final Fantasy X's sphere grid.

  • The Witch is Intelligence based.
  • The Templar is Intelligence and Strength based.
  • The Marauder is Strength based.
  • The Duelist is Strength and Dexterity based.
  • The Ranger is Dexterity based.
  • The Shadow is Dexterity and Intelligence based.
  • The Scion starts in the center of the tree and is able to reach into the other class areas easily.

Skills in Path of Exile are used by equipping the appropriate skill gem. Some items have inherent skills not granted by skill gems normally, such as Whispering Ice and Aberrath's Hooves. Skill gems must go in the appropriate color socket in an item. Linked sockets may interact with each other through support gems, which do not grant skills by themselves.
