Questions tagged [minesweeper]

A timed, single-player puzzle game, where the objective is to clear all spaces from a field that do not contain a mine.

In Minesweeper you are presented with a field of spaces (can be 2D or 3D in any shape). Left-clicking on a space reveals it, right clicking on a space marks it with a flag.

  • If a mine is revealed, the player has failed the level.
  • If a space does not contain a mine, it will show a number depending on how many adjacent spaces contain mines.
  • If there are no adjacent mines, it will show as blank and reveal all adjacent blank spaces until a numbered space is revealed.

Once you have sufficient information on an area, you can use logic to find the location of the mines, and then to clear the safe spaces.

Best move when they are no more certain moves left

When playing minesweeper, there is that inevitable moment where you have solved everything that is logically solvable. The only next move is to guess and hope you don't land on a mine. When playing on a large board, say 30x16, this usually happens…
