Hearthstone is a free to play virtual collectible card game based on characters from Blizzard's Warcraft universe. It was announced at PAX East on March 22, 2013. The game entered a closed beta phase in the summer of 2013 and entered an open beta phase at the end of January 2014. Hearthstone was officially released on March 3, 2014.

While Hearthstone is free to play, additional card packs may be purchased. Sets of card pack prices range from $2.99 through $49.99 and each pack includes at least one rare card. Any cards purchased during the open beta will be retained at the time of official release. Additionally, purchasing a card pack with real money during the open beta will reward the purchaser with a limited edition legendary card: a golden Gelbin Mekkatorque.

Hearthstone is currently available for Windows, Macintosh, iOS, and Android.
