Questions tagged [brogue]

Brogue is a roguelike game created by Brian Walker. Its streamlined interface and strategic gameplay set it apart from most classical roguelikes.

[Brogue]1 (originally short for Brian's Rogue) is a roguelike game. As in its predecessors Nethack and Rogue, a Brogue game consists of traversing 26 procedurally generated dungeon levels, defeating monsters and gaining experience along the way.

Brogue, however, does away with many traditional roguelike mechanics, such as character classes and "grinding". All characters start out with the same attributes and equipment, and gain abilities and combat proficiency by finding and enchanting items.

Other distinctive features include:

  • Intelligent allies and enemy mobs
  • Key-lock puzzles
  • Automated exploration feature
  • "Autopilot" feature

How to handle jellies?

Every time you attack a jelly, it splits. A typical yellow jelly can split ~8 times. All jelles will obviously attack you at the same time if they can, so great care must be taken in setting up the fight; even then it is hard to keep the numbers…

In Brogue, I like to auto-explore the first level, as it's always very easy and not really dangerous and stop when I get to the second level, exploring it on my own from there on, as auto-explore doesn't pick up all the items, will sometimes not…
