Black Mesa is a fan-made remake of the original Half-Life, made in the updated Source engine.

Black Mesa (a.k.a. Black Mesa: Source) is a fan-made remake of Valve's Half-Life, created in the Source engine.
It is a complete remake, with all-new content - improved and higher definition models, new sound effects, voice acting, and music, reinterpreted and overhauled maps, etc. - while staying true to the spirit of the original classic.

The initial version of Black Mesa was released for free.
Eight years later, an updated and commercial version was released on Steam after having been Greenlighted. This version includes many bug fixes, and adds the alien planet of Xen, a feature missing in the free version.

The free remake only requires the Source SDK Base 2007, which is available for free on .
