[ice-sheets] concerns questions on the large present and past continental scale ice sheets, such as Antarctica, Greenland, the Laurentide, Fennoscandian and Alpine ice sheets.
The tag ice-sheets concern questions on the great ice sheets, present and past. Ice sheets are defined as glaciers of such size that their flow is largely independent of underlying topography. Ice sheets are therefore of continental or sub-continental scale and not to be confused with ice fields (e.g. the Patagonian ice fields) and ice caps (e.g. Vatnajökull, Barnes Ice Cap).
