Making coffee with Moka pots, which are metal pots used to brew coffee on a stove, using steam pressure to force heated water up through ground coffee into an upper chamber.

A moka pot is a metal pot used to brew coffee on a stove. It was invented in 1933 by Luigi De Ponti for Alfonso Bialetti, a company in Italy.

Water is heated in the lower chamber, and steam pressure forces the hot water up through the grounds, and into the upper chamber.

When and how should I clean my moka pot?

I regularly use a moka pot for making coffee, and I've heard different people tell me about cleaning it. The consensus does seem to be that I should never clean it with soap, just rinse it with warm/hot water, but some people insist that it should…

How should I make multiple batches quickly with a moka pot?

I made three batches in a row with a moka pot (for Vietnamese coffee ice cream!) recently. I did my best to handle things with a wet rag while still hot, but it was still a bit of a pain and a bit slow. Is there anything else I can do to speed…

My moka pot brew exploded. What did I do wrong?

Well the moka pot itself didn't explode, rather the coffee bursted out from the funnel of the collecting chamber and through the middle of the moka pot, splashing all my clothes and half of my kitchen with coffee stains (nobody got hurt). Before the…

Purpose of Hole in Moka Funnel

I recently switched from a Bialetti Moka Express 3-cup stovetop espresso maker to a Cloer 5928 espresso maker. It has an integrated heating unit, just like an electric kettle, so making a coffee is now much more energy-efficient. The coffee from the…

Do I need to boil the water before using my moka?

I was recently told that I could improve the flavour of my moka pot coffee by boiling the water separately before putting it in the pot and assembling it. The theory goes that this means that the pot spends less time on the stove, meaning the…

Accidentially put aluminum moka pot on stove without water ... is it still usable?

I was a bit tired this morning and accidentally put my moka pot (Bialetti Brikka, aluminum) on the stove with the water still in the top (for measuring the amount), instead of pouring it into the boiler. Realized my mistake early enough, no burnt…

Is it safe to deburr a Moka pot with a file

I have a 3 cup aluminum bialetti that I've had for a year. One thing that bothers me is that there are burrs around the edges on the upper section that trap coffee and are hard to clean. I have some fine needle files that could take care of it,…

First of all, I've seen Why does my moka pot sputter?, which covers a very similar issue but has no answers and doesn't ask the specific question I have. My 6 cup Bialetti is probably from the 1960s, but the modern gasket still fits and I've…

how often should I replace the metal filter on a Bialetti Moka Express 6-cup?

I've been using the same filter in my Moka pot for one year, and it looks fine. None of the holes are blocked. But I noticed that Bialetti sells gasket packs in threes with one filter included. That suggests that Bialetti expects (or wants?) you to…
