Questions tagged [density]

For questions involving (theoretical or experimental) comparison of density of elements or substances, calculating density of solutions, effects of temperature on density, and other chemical aspects of density.

Density (volumetric mass density) is defined as the mass per unit volume of a substance. Questions about density on this site will usually involve (theoretical or experimental) comparison of density of different elements or substances, calculating density of solutions, affect of temperature on density, and other chemical aspects of density.

Though, the concept of density is much more popular in Physics. Hence, questions involving density alongside involve buoyant forces, pressure, and other mechanical physics concepts, are better suited for Physics.SE instead (and will be closed as off-topic on Chem.SE)

Density of moist air

Why does moist air have lesser density than dry air? When the amount of vapor inside increases, the mass increases and hence won't the density as well increase?

Gas densities and the atmosphere

The density of nitrogen is greater than the density of oxygen, hence the denser nitrogen would be present in the lower atmosphere. If so it would be deprived of oxygen as it would be pushed to the higher atmosphere due to its low density. But we…

Calculating mass from just density?

So I just started chem 101 and I'm not sure how to solve this problem. This is a problem from the dimensional analysis section of our book. It seems like the question wants me to get mass purely from density? The book never talked about that. It…
