In The Resistance is it always a bad idea for the spies to fail the first mission?

My first thought was that it was always a bad idea to fail the first mission as a spy. As there are only two people on the mission, the spy has revealed himself to one of the players. With 5 players though, it seems like the spies give too much away…

How can I set up a game of the Resistance without anyone needing to close their eyes?

Thinking about this question reminded me of a problem I thought of some time back. I love playing the Resistance (particularly with the plot cards), but I always find the eyes closed, open, closed, open business slightly awkward. This is…

In The Resistance the rules state that everyone votes on the team selected by the team leader, and then reveals their votes. However I was taught by a friend that the votes are randomized by the leader and then revealed to hide who voted what. This…

Clarification about drawing and assigning plot cards

The rules are explicit about plot cards being assigned only once per round, there being only five rounds in a game. However, a single round can go through several leaders (if votes fail). My question is, are the plot cards distributed simply by…

The Resistance doesn't work when resistance members don't care about losing

Was playing a game of The Resistance with some people who haven't played it before. What I found, is that of the five games we played, the Resistance only won one of them. I think the reason for this, was a social dynamic of people not wanting to…

Why might a leader propose a team they don't plan to approve?

In a previous question a commenter mentioned that team leader might propose a team, that they don't intend to approve. Presumably this has something to do with either seeing how other people vote to ascertain if they are spys or not, or sowing…

Does the leader get to look at the Plot cards before distribution?

When playing The Resistance with the Plot Thickens expansion, the leader gets to distribute the Plot cards to other players of her choosing. Is this a blind draw, or does the leader get to look at the cards before giving them to other players?

Should you reveal who was a spy and who wasn't at the end of a game?

I guess this is possibly up to house rules/who is playing. On one hand, revealing who were the spies also reveals people's play styles, which might make it a bit less fun for future games. It would something akin to revealing one's hole cards after…

Does 'The plot thickens' make the game easier or harder?

Just curious for games going forward. Because the expansion allows you to see how people have played on missions, can reveal people's cards, etc, it seems like these are all an advantage mostly to the resistance. In people's experience - does it…
