Which property group colour gives the best ROI , undeveloped or fully developed, in Monopoly?
Everybody always goes for the dark blues in Monopoly (Mayfair and Park Lane in the UK edition), but I'm convinced that the cheaper colour groups offer a better return on investment, partly because you can fully develop them quicker, and partly…

Monopoly: Do I Collect Rent If I Am In Jail?
I am playing Monopoly and I land on the 'Go to jail' space.
The player next in line rolls, and lands on Park Place, which I own. He challenges me, and says that he doesn't have to pay rent, because I am in jail.
Is this true?

Do you collect $200 in Monopoly if you don't ask for it?
If a player passes Go but doesn't ask for their money and the next player plays, does the first player still get their money if they ask only after the next round is played? I could not find this in the Monopoly rules.

In Monopoly, Is it OK for a third party to make a trade with a player who is about to lose?
I play with some serious board gamers, but we have neglected Monopoly for a number of years, so our knowledge is mostly based on high school & house rules.
We played last week and enjoyed it, but there was a piece of contention. There are times…

If you pass GO, do you collect 200 at the end of the turn or as you pass GO?
This is to settle a current dispute with our game. Here's the scenario: Someone rolled the dice and landed on Community Chest, passing GO in the process. They picked up the card and it read 'Pay 10 pound or Take a Chance'. They took a Chance, and…

However, is this the closest…

Should I get $200 for passing "Go" if I then get a card that says "don't collect $200"?
Take this scenario: Someone rolled the dice and landed on Community Chest, passing "Go" in the process. They picked up the card and it read 'Go to jail. Don't collect $200'.
They argued that they should still receive $200 because they already…

What happens when you need to tear-down a hotel but no houses are in the bank in Monopoly?
Strictly following the rules of Monopoly will show that just because you have the cash to out-right buy hotels for your properties, you cannot if there are not enough houses in the bank to support an even build (ie, there are less than 12 in the…

This happened in one of the Monopoly games I had a while ago.
It was a 3-player game. Two players were in prison when the incident occurred. The third player (let's call him Joe) landed on the unowned property in his turn. This is what he said:

In Monopoly, there are two utilities. They cost 150, and rent is 4x the dice roll if one utility is owned, or 10x the dice value if both are owned.
Are the utilities something I want to purchase if possible? Or are they junk? How valuable are they…

What happens if you roll doubles 3 times then land on "Go to jail?"
Do you have to serve two jail sentences? For example, you go to jail the first time and use your "Get out of jail free" card, and then go right back to jail for another sentence without rolling the dice.

Do you still pay 10x the dice when getting the chance card that takes you to the nearest utility if the property is mortgaged?
The card does not say anything about whether or not the property is mortgaged. Also, it does not say anything like "twice what is entitled" like the similar railroad card does. I would go with you still have to pay, but I'm looking for backup to…

Does the "housing shortage" rule suggest that you should often refrain from buying hotels in monopoly?
There are 32 houses in Monopoly. That's only enough to cover eight properties with four houses each, or two full (three property) monopolies, plus one two property monopoly, either Boardwalk-Park Place, or Mediterranean-Baltic.
So if I own two full…
