I found this strange insect while on Son Tra, Da Nang in central Vietnam. It was about 4cm long and although it was on the ground, was obviously capable of flying. I've never seen anything like this and would like help identifying it, please. Thanks!

Dasypogon is a genus of robber flies in the family Asilidae.

  • Kingdom: Animalia
  • Phylum: Arthropoda
  • Class: Insecta
  • Order: Diptera ,
  • Family: Asilidae
  • Tribe:Dasypogonini
  • Genus:Dasypogon.

84 species belong to the genus Dasypogon. Among these, this one is Asilidae Dasypogon diadema.
