Are active charcoal air filters effective against finishing fumes?
I do my woodworking in a small basement, with medium-poor air circulation. I will probably end up buying an air filter (I'm looking at the Jet AFS-500) anyway, since it seems like a good idea for the dust my dust extraction misses.
I see that that…

How can I fix warping on board made of glued 2x4s
I built a tabletop gluing up seven 2x4s together, and it warped a lot.
Two opposing corners are up and the others down.
I know cheap construction 2x4s can warp, but can this be fixed?
The only way I can think of is to plane it a lot with my hand…

How to calculate dust collection horse power per feed and bends
I have a 1HP dust collector that is connected to a few 90' bends and a few gates to redirect flow. It wasn't something that I thought was very long or involved many bends but it resulted in a reduction of suction that rendered the dust collector…

When is spalting beneficial for wood?
While I was researching the term "spalting" in wood, I found that there is a very big interest in spalted wood.
When is it good for the wood and when isn't it good? I'm referring to another post on WW SE that asked how it can be avoided.

One-handed bar clamp is moving freely in both directions, can it be fixed?
At rest position, the mechanism which prevents the clamp from opening no longer provides enough friction, causing the clamp to move freely in this direction, and making it impossible to use one handed in a vertical position. It became more or less…

Router bit speed as a function of wood hardness
I understand why larger router bits should be operated at lower speeds and there are a multitude of router bit speed charts out there to help you choose the correct speed for any given bit.
It all revolves around (haha, see what I did there?) the…

Should pre stain be used with gel stain?
I have read that gel stain sits on top of the wood, rather than soaking into it, and pre stain helps with uniform absorption of stain.
Does this then mean that pre stain is not necessary when using gel stain?
