A partially recognized country in the Caucasus

Abkhazia is a partially recognized state (recognized only by Russia, Nicaragua and Venezuela) on the eastern Black Sea and the south-western Caucasus, south of Russia and northwest of Georgia.

There are two land crossings into Abkhazia, one from Russia and one from Georgia. Visas are generally required and there are military checkpoints on the Georgian side. Entry from Georgia may be made more complicated due to their recent history.
